Hi folks, please welcome me graciously to livejournal.com, as I just set up my account here and this is my first blog post. I am new to this blogging thing, so forgive me. Right now, it's nearly 4 AM where I live, and I do not have any pressing issues on my mind. Hmm, I can tell you what I'm doing right now though. I'm reading a college textbook for fun. The textbook is, "A History of Western Civilization: From Antiquity to 1500." Yeah, I'm a little nerdy!
I've always loved learning about history, even when I was a child. I used to read encyclopedias for fun.. yes, I was an odd kid. I am a history/anthropology major.. well, not "officially," because I am still attending a community college, but I will be when I transfer over to university. I love learning (or at least attempting to learn) foreign languages and I love learning about different cultures. I'm more interested in cultural anthropology as opposed to archaeology (physical anthropology).
No, I don't really know what career I will be pursuing after college. I just want to have a career that allows me the opportunity to travel the world. Sounds kind of unrealistic, huh? Hey, at least I'm honest about what I want! Unfortunately, I've never had the opportunity in my life to travel anywhere - sadly, I've only been to a handful of U.S. states, and I've never been outside of the U.S. border.
I would really like to do a study abroad program sometime in the future, even if it's only for a few weeks in the summer, if finances permit it. I've looked at a few study abroad programs affiliated with the university I'm going to be attending starting Fall 2008 (Central Michigan University - just got accepted last week). I was really interested in one program - a
summer program at Kingston University in London, England. The classes offered look really interesting, but of course it's just a wonderful excuse to hang out in London! The Tower of London, the British Museum, and maybe I'll run into Prince William (yeah, right.. LOL!). Anyway, this is probably still a few years away.
I was also looking at study abroad programs in Germany, but I think I need to perfect my German a little before I go to visit. Wie geht es Ihnen? ;) Another one of my undertakings this summer - trying to teach myself German. At least I have my guys Rammstein to help me! Thanks Rammstein, now I can go to Germany and talk about gay men
("Mann Gegen Mann") or hermaphrodites
("Zwitter") but I could barely ask for directions to a restroom! Wo ist die toilette? LOL!
